Hitachi and the 4TB Hard Drive

As announced some time ago, Hitachi has released a 4TB hard drive.

This brand new model spins at 7200 RPM and has a throughput of over 200MB/s. Featuring a 3.5-inch format and a S-ATA 6 Gbps interface, this model has a transfer rate that can reach 204 MB/second. Obviously, the consumption of said model is affected, since it consumes nearly 7 watts at rest.

Hitachi announces that this new model will be directly integrated into the G-DRIVE and G-RAID external enclosures.

This new generation of 4TB hard drives opens the door to large (or very large) data storage media, which will still need to prove their long-term reliability.
